Lipari is the largest island of the Aeolian Islands and the tourist capital of the whole archipelago. It immediately hits visitors due to the white expanse of pumice that was once exported all over the world. Besides being rich in inlets and vegetation, it also has some unexpected artistic and architectural treasures. It is also famous for its breathtaking sunsets over the sea, the peaceful atmosphere and the strong flavors of the typical Aeolian cuisine. The archipelago can be reached from the airports of Catania, Naples, Palermo and Reggio Calabria; by sea, with hydrofoil, from the ports of Naples, Messina, Milazzo, Palermo and Reggio Calabria and by ships from the ports of Naples and Milazzo. Timetables and availability of navigation means change according to the seasons. We recommend to consult the timetables on the websites of the shipping companies.
If you are in the capital to reach the island, our advice always based on the availability of time and material, are: airplane Rome / Catania (about 1.30h). Once you get out from the airport on the right there are the ticket offices to reach different areas of Sicily; the fastest way is to take a minibus (Alibrando / Compagnia delle Isole) to Milazzo (journey time around 2h); arrived in Milazzo, you will go to the "Liberty Lines" hydrofoil ticket office, during the summer season there are connections every hour for the Islands and especially for Lipari, being the most connected, in about 50 minutes you should arrive directly on the Island!
Milan / Naples / Lipari
With the train o with the car, it is also possible to reach the island.
It seems like the title of a film, yet we can boast of being connected to the big Apple too; with a flight it is possible to reach from the United States directly the Sicily, precisely the airport of Palermo, small but sufficiently supplied; once disembarked you can take a quick taxi if you are in a hurry, or a bus to the port of Palermo, from there in the summer you can easily find the Aeolian Islands, in about 5 hours you should get directly to Lipari
From Paris it seems far away, but actually every year we have a lot of French visitors who come to discover the beauty of the Aeolian Islands; mentioned in many transalpe guides; from Paris for sure the fastest option is a flight, direction Reggio Calabria or better still Catania. From there with the right connection you can take a taxi / bus to the port of Reggio or Milazzo in case you land at Catania. We always recommend the sicilian port as it is the one most connected to the islands.
